    Ok, that is hilarious. Glad the kid is smart and not caving in.

        Does anyone know what's going on with it now?
        The kid was not too smart for this however:
        "Since my name is Mike Rowe, I thought it would be funny to add 'soft' to the end of it," said Rowe, a 17-year-old student in Victoria, British Columbia.

        If he had not given such a stupid comment he'd be in a much better shape. The fact that he thought it would be 'funny' infers to the name sounding like ... Microsoft.

          His biggest mistake was falling for the Microsoft trap, where they offered him $10 and he said it's worth $10,000. This, under twisted dispute rules, means that the owner registered the domain in bad faith and may have to give it up.

              Bit like the time Disney went after a elderly caricature artist at a school fair for drawing a picture of a kid who resembled one of their characters.

              Immensely sad.

                  Not to defend microsoft or anything, but often this is over zealous lawyers (who clearly get paid the more domains they can attack people for) as opposed to the company itself. I know that i bought www.talkstarwars.com at one point (i had a range of them) and it just linked to my ascifi.com forums. I got a nice chain letter from the Lucas lawyers claiming all sorts of damages. I wrote & emailed back to them but never heard from them again.

                    Something like this just went through my mind :

                    if ($over_zealous_lawyers == 'employed')

                    {
                    _microsofts_fault('lawyers');

                    }

                    else

                    {
                    $_chance = '0.0000001';

                    }

                    function _microsofts_fault($moo)

                    {
                    _hold_accountable('whole company : ' + $moo);

                    // TODO: Smear lawyers in dog food and get some rottweilers

                    }

                      The guy is a vbulletin user

                      :: NEWS :: July 7/2003 :: New Completed Site
                      Well I have finished a new site - WholyCow.com (view it here until it is uploaded to the domain). This was from a contest on yaXay.com in which I won. There was hard competition but I was still able to pull it off. Included in this project was a full vBulletin skinning. It was my first time coding with the vBulletin template system but I was able to learn how to work with it quickly.I personally think this is my best work yet and I am quite proud of it.

                        Microsoft doesn't have a case. Just because it sounds like their name and that guy intended to do so there is nothing they can do as long as he does spell it like them. I would find a way to counter sue microsoft for something.

                          [offtopic] why do you use such an acient vb version on your boards?

                            Because there is a custom subscription system code in there and i havn't wanted to port all of that stuff over to any of the old vb2 versions, and am waiting for gold for vb3. I don't spend much time on ascifi any more, concentrating on my biz site www.deskpro.com
