Settled on laptop...unless you can talk me out of it?

This particular one is preconfigured so at a lower price. Fortunately it still has the full warantee, even a higher capacity battery. Also wireless, which was an absolute necessity.

    Comments?

On problems I see is 1. XP Home is not as great as Pro in my views and also 2. It only has 256 mb of memory and also in my mind you need at least 512 mb to run Windows XP smoothly.

PS: to clarify you need at least 512mb to run Windows XP and something else like another application which is something you probably will want to do.

I'm not worrying about XP Home or pure power, as this will only be used for e-mail/text/browsing--pretty much everything I used my iBook for. The only major factors that contributed to this decision was long battery life, a tiny laptop, and wireless. I hate the big screen laptops.

Also, I can buy Windows XP Pro at school for $10.

Who says that you need more then 256MB to run XP smoothly?

I have 256MB and I can run photoshop and a web browser easily without going into swap space.

There is also very little advantage for PRO for most people. I know of the extra features, but I would not use a single one of them. No home user who I know that has PRO uses these features either

I use a ton of Pro features everyday. I excepically like the group manager allows for something great tweaks to performance.

The extended battery is rated for 4 to 6 hours. That's better than the pathetic 2 hours that most PC laptops get.

128 MB of RAM is pathetic; also doesn't come with an OS by default, so I'd have to buy another license.

Shame, though, because other than that, it looks good.

the only real difference between XP pro and Home is the networking

Multiprocessors, too. But for this, XP Home is fine for me.
