I got a classical guitar for Xmas :D

I said to my mum in passing "i wouldn't mind learning guitar"

So she went and bought me one today

it's only a classical, but perfect for learning on.

Does anyone know of any decent sites that teach tuning, notes, and the basics etc?

prefferably with video's, because i'm lazy when it comes to reading, and i learn better visually (some sort of mild dyslexia)

    cheers.

Not really a non Christian term for Christmas... just an abbreviation of sorts. I use it... and I'm Christian...

Some, that are not Christians, use Xmas... But I know a lot of Christians that use the term "Xmas".

And technically speaking, you're still saying "Christmas". Because the "X" in "Xmas" is Greek, and "X" in Greek, is called "Chi". As early as the 1 Century, the "X" was used as Christ's initial. In the New Testament in the Bible, "X" was used to abbreviate Christ's name (Christos). So when you as "Xmas" you're technically saying, "Christmas"

Just a little history session of the term "Xmas"

Guitar is a fantastic instrument. There's so many resources online for tabs to songs once you get going. The thing with the guitar in my experience is to have classes with someone. One to one tuition will teach you about 10X faster than tutorials and books. Unfortunately I had to give up due to a finger being broken (and permanently damaged) on my left (tab-playing) hand Nevertheless have fun with your guitar!

Don't know how good they are, but they come top in a Google search for "learn acoustic guitar"

Guitar is a great instrument, they are fun to play, though, the bass is less complicated.

                      Have fun with it.

Yes, the guitar is a great instrument. I started playing it when I was 8 or so (I've been playing for almost 16 years now). First starting out with an acoustic, then then to an electric when I was around 14. My most prized guitar... a 1967 Les Paul SG. It was in excellent condition. I down own it anymore (too long of a story).

In high school, I use to build my own guitars - both for my own use, as well as custom build them for others as well (make a nice profit from it as well). Its not that hard of a process, really. The first one that I made, I built from a kit (you can by kits - they come with plans, wiring, pickups, etc). Then I started making my own designs. Buying the parts myself. But I bought the necks - since those are the hardest to make yourself. If I had the tools to do it (band saw, router, belt sander), I would still be making them. But living in an apartment, its almost impossible to do anything like that anymore.

                        Check out: http://www.guitar-pro.com/
Its a nice fast way to learn the sangs you love. You can download songs for free that are programed to play on Guitar Pro, and you can print out song music via the program, as well as play along with it.

                        Also, check out: http://www.guitar.com
Its a very nice site, with lots of videos for guitar plays (professional).

Another guitarist here too. I actually just got done laying down some tracks for a demo I'm making. I've been playing for 13 years or so (started when I was 10). Great fun. Unfortunetly I've got to spend stuff on other things (bills etc) so I cant do much for upgrade, but I would love to get a classical nylon stringed guitar. Lots of fun to play.
