    New dual-layer DVD burner due out in April '04
    "Expect double-layer, almost double-capacity DVD+R drives and media to hit the stores next April, members of the DVD+RW alliance say. The technology, co-developed by drive maker Philips, and media specialists Verbatim and Mitsubishi Kagaku, adds a second recording layer to a standard-thickness DVD+R disc, taking the medium's capacity from 4.7GB to 8.5GB."

      There is a new drive on the horizon that will do 8x -r AND +r, cant decide if to wait for the even faster drives come out before I swap my Sony 4x

      on the subject of dvd backup, heres the methods I use

      DVD5 -> DVD5
      Firstly, create an image from the dvd in DVD Decrypter (ISO Read Mode), removing macrovision, region codes etc. Then, switch to ISO Write mode and burn the image file

      DVD9 -> DVD5
      Rip the files to my hard drive using File Mode in DVD Decrypter. Shrink any extras, remove additional sound tracks/subtitles using DVD Shrink. Create an iso of the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories and then burn the image file with DVD Decrypter

      Ive got perfect backup copies of all my dvds with the original menus in most cases.

      Also, I wouldnt recommend Nero for burning DVD Video discs as I have had compatability problems with consoles and some dvd STB's

      Nick
