    vBulletin 3 Question.

I haev a question regarding vB 3... And no, it has nothing to do with release or anything like that..

I am wondering about when you go to isntall it and it asks for the customer number.. I think that is a good feature that will help to prevent piracy...

But wouldn't it be easy to just remove that part from the Install.php file?

It takes all of two seconds to remove that part, or change the customer number you have to enter, but that of course requires that you have some knowledge of how it works.

Yes. Or even look at the source code to get the ID it is checking against.

I thought that too. When I first downlaoded it, I was getting confused with my customer number and lisence number... I ended up browsing through the files and finding the definition of my number - no more mistakes

It wasn't a piracy related change. It's an additional line of security in case you leave the files on your server after they're used (you should still remove them).

That seems an odd reason, as there is any existing feature which won't let you log into the AdminCP if the install files exists.

Yes, but there wasn't an existing feature that would prevent a malicious user from re-running the install and deleting your forums of the last three years.

                  That is what this prevents.
