Yeah what people don't realize is that 4x DVD burning is close to the limits of read speeds on the hard drives many people have in their PCs.

The x8 LiteOn 811S is only does x8 on DVD+R media, which IMHO is less useful than -R for general compatiblity. -R recording is limited to x4 on the LiteOn.

-R is the most compatible with normal players, but +R has historically had faster record speeds.Comment

Nicholas, this only applies to a two Liteon DVD drives (the Liteon LDW-400D and LDW-440D). Likewise, Sony has rebadged drives that are actually Liteon drives. Liteon very much makes their own 8x DVD drives and cd/cd-r drives. The Sony drives, which the first Liteon drives are based on, are very good drives also.Comment

Doesn't Sony hold the patents on both the +/- burning formats?ManagerJosh, Owner of 4 XenForo Licenses, 1 vBulletin Legacy License, 1 Internet Brands Suite License
