    Bringing traffic to a forum?

    Hi,
I am planning to make a forum and post on other's boards, with a link in my signature to my forum, to bring traffic to my own board.

Is it a good idea? Will this work?

Also, is it a good idea to make a couple post per day, using different usernames, to bring some discussion to my board? Does anyone ever dd this? Did it work out?

Thanks a lot for your opinions,
    Snowball19 @ Steve

Don't forget to ask permission before putting a link for your site in your sig

Depends on how much attention members pay to the sig

    I don't see why not.

I think it's actually a great idea to do this. Whenever I see an active board, it'll make me register a lot faster, than when I see a dead board!

Ok. Thanks alot for your opinions so far guys ... keep 'em coming

Also, I would like to know if posting DVD reviews on newgroups with links to my forum, is a good idea? Or is it considered spam?

        Thanks a lot,
        Steve @ Snowball19

          This is definately quite important
I remember doing it myself when I had just started automotiveforums.com.

It's also a very good idea to get a bunch of people to jump in with you from the start, that way you have a bit of juice to keep things running until the board bulks out a bit.

Good idea to link your site in the sig though. Google finds it, if nothing else

I'm guessing those members have "moved on", looking at your membercount now

Don't have too many forums, it will makes your board like a ghost town, start only with the strict minimum and adds more when your board grow

May want to get ProgramE and let ALICE talk

Although this is generally true, it is possible to make a large message board (in terms of number of forums) popular.
AF started with well over 700 forums and a handful of members.

700 forums seems a bit too much ... I will begin with 4-5 forums and will add more later.

Also, is there any other 'method' or ringing traffic to my forum than posting to other forums, search engines and newsgroups? If so, can you guys tell me a bit more about them?

I don't have any other site/forums right now.

                        Thanks a lot,
                        Steve @ Snowball19

That would be one forum dedicated to each car manufacturer in existence (that we know of)

That sounds a lot but with that kind of site people are only going to visit the forum which relates to the car they actually own I'd imagine, so it wouldn't be that daunting to see so many empty forums.

I'd be careful about posting under multiple accounts if I were you. If new members get involved and then later realize that they've been taken for a ride they're not going to be too impressed and you'll lose their trust. You may be doing it for the right reasons, but it's still deception.
