    GIMP replaces Photoshop
Is that a REAL replacement (something just as powerful), or is it something like replacing UltraEdit with Notepad?
    :)

The latter. GIMP isn't nearly as powerful as Photoshop.

You can run Photoshop and many other windows programs with Crossover Office 2.0 under Linux.

I've heard that Wine and WineX don't work very well.

I haven't had any problems with the version from Transgaming. I think most people have problems with the Opensource version.

I see. Do you use regular Wine at all?

Why bother? It doesn't include DirectX. Can't play any of the popular new games without DirectX.

Right now I am trying out both Transgaming Point2Play and Cross Office to see which provides the best version of Wine for my computer. Or if I need them both.

Only program that I haven't gotten to run yet is TopStyle Pro but Beyond Compare works like a peach as do several other applications including Red Alert 2, Starcraft and Warcraft III. They work faster than they did in XP as well because of my tweaked kernal.

I was refering to regular Wine for applications, not games, but that's good to know that a lot of things work just fine. I am trying to figure out how to tweak settings such as mouse speed, sound, etc as well as find out what drivers are installed for them. I'm slowly but surely figuring things out so I may switch over after I'm used to it all.

                  What's Point2Play?

Yeah... I can run Beyond Compare under Wine. The toolbars are a little disjointed but otherwise it works. Haven't really had a need to run anything else as there are equivalents in Linux already. I don't have Photoshop but I am thinking of trying Photoshop Elements and a couple of other programs I have.

Point2Play is Transgaming's graphical Interface to WineX (Wine with DirectX). It allows you to run games without messing with the command line or setting up Icons.

Ah I see. Which version of Wine are you currently using? I think I have a lot of reading to do.

Just one last off-topic question. Any suggestions on tweaking the kernel, Wayne?

Start here.. What you do to tweak it depends on what processor you have and other hardware. My Kernal is setup to take advantage of the Athlon chip (it would actually be slower on a P4) and my GEFORCE 4 MX graphics chip.

I use evolution to check 25-30 pop3 accounts (Yes, I know, I have waaaaaaaay too many )

For dreamweaver purposes, I just use Quantra

That's an HTML editor but I think that he was looking for an actual program that allows you to create things in a visual sense rather than pure code. Unless this does that.
