I hope so. This is the right way to get rich - offer a superior product for a reasonable price. -
For every license sold, you have to account for that licenses share of bandwidth usage (for download), site traffic (more bandwidth), not to mention the hefty server that this site is running on to be able to support this forum and the vb-world.net forums. Then add the graphics for the site, which were professionally designed, and unless John & James know the designer and got a good deal, probably cost a pretty penny. Then you have to assume the costs of using the third party secure ordering provider; as well as all the costs (legal and otherwise) associated with running a business.
After you factor in all of those issues, then figure the amount of time that John and James have spent on vBulletin, it probably doesn't amount to that much $$ per hour, compared to a normal development job.
Is vBulletin successful? Yes. Is it providing for John and James's retirement? Probably not.

I absolutely agree with JimF. After all is said an done, they probably are left wondering where all the money went.
P.S. Shouldn't this be in the Chit Chat category?Comment

Mmm.. I doubt he's RICH. A quick calculation and I'd say he's probably making a nice amount but by no means swimming in wealth.
ESPECIALLY if he's doing this full time (which from what I've heard, he is!)Comment

think of it this way.
All sales of VB = 100%
Of that 100% lets say 60% are members of this forum.
so lets do 1500 * licence price, add on a little bit more for the other peeps who arent registed, and yes... this all = a ferrari for John <G>http://www.e-tones.co.uk - The best site on the net for mobile phones.Comment
