Do you allow your members to SPAM?

When they join your forum, how do you handle them if they join with a link to their business or a link to their forum in their signature? Do you allow it?

I have a specific category for advertising, where all advertisements must go.

I don't mind links to websites if it's only in their signatures. But if they start an entire topic about it, that's another story...

I have latley not accepted any of it. I Dislike it when someone just signs up for the soul reason of advertising their site/board.

I know it does seem a bit crewl, but i have run my community now for over 2 years, and it is annoying when someone abuses the privilage you have offered them by registering and posting links to their site.

But i do allow personal sites, anyone got a personal site, as long as it is in no way of competition of mine, i am happy with them posting a link.

In there signature it is fine on my personal forums. That is what signatures are for and other members can turn them off.

If it is posts made after they sign up, they are banned immediately.

                Ditto.

I also allow linking in signatures, but if it gets out of hand, the url is edited to direct to the forums index.

                      Yes....

A user comes to my site and registers for an account.
The first thing they post is some sort of SPAM. they are banned no questions asked, no second chances. Didn't think it was that hard to understand. Sorry.

I run an automotive forum on "brand x" and someone signs up looking for lincoln Navigator dash replacements. A few days later, someone else signs up and replies with a link to a dash website. I saw this same this happen on a totally different automotive forum as well!

One of my forums is for allowing other members to critique their site. While I'm sure many members are just sly, most seem to honestly want feedback and they tend to stick around after that.

Spam of any other kind in any other forum is an immediate deletion and banning.

I dont allow links to commercial sites. IE: they are selling something, services etc...I did not pay for my vb license and pay to host my board so I can be a place where someone can advertise to make money....after all whats in it for me, if you want to advertise your commercial site then I want a % of your total sales.
