    banner on vbulletin.com? or ghost?

    Erhm?

When I check my E-mail, I get a few replies to posts mails, I click on the link and reply if I think I should. Then I notice that another window has been loaded out of nowhere. Turns out to be a pop-behind banner. Bweah? It is the third time this happened, but now I really notice it. I don't think that vBulletin.com/ forum has banner popups, but .. since it is the third time it happened. What could be causing it? I just booted up the system, only had 2 emails, both from vbulletin.com and only page I loaded was http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...7&goto=newpost - I have no idea what could be causing it.

I can assure you the pop up is not caused by vBulletin.com, and you can check the HTML source if you don't believe me.
Perhaps the pop up is opened by that email client of yours?

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

I will keep my eyes open. I already thought that it didn't, but because it each time happened to this site. I was wondering.
Nope, the E-mail client won't load inbound html. Nor any (java)scripts. I am happy to have this confirmed, so I can investigate!

It's probably a spyware app you have on your computer.

Maybe try running AdAware on your comp?
        :)

I do not run any spyware, shareware, freeware, adware, virus, trojan on my system, as far as the latest updates of all those tools (scanners) know of. - I am very picky with my software, and security.

Well, it has to be an app that has spyware that you were unaware of. Let's take a look at the facts..

            1. You're seeing a banner
            2. vB.com isn't sending the banner
            3. IE, Netscape, Mozilla, and Opera don't just popup banners

Obviousely, it either has to be another site that you're viewing at the same time, or a spyware/ad app.

Yahoo msg has integrated with toolbar of IE, and it seems to be loading some stuff. According to the firewall. I'll trace those IP's and see if they end up with those banner hosts.

                    Yeh, it was yahoo messanger.
Even though most stuff got blocked, they seemed to have an advertiser in the stock section, which used an img tag with javascript to load a new browser. I have E-mailed a complaint to them, and they confirmed it. - Doesn't happen a lot that these things get passed the firewall

I hate bonzi buddy! I mean sometimes he makes it onto my desktop as a stupid icon, ahhhh someone shut bonzi buddy up! It's annoying how somethings just download and install themselves...

Yahoo is becoming one of the worst companies with pop-ups and now that I know they integrate spyware into their tools, I am glad I don't use any of them. Really try hard not to visit any of their sites, even sites hosted with them (i.e. Geocities and YahooShops) because of it as well.
