    Inappropriate site!!!

Do you also own Ikon Board? Because if you do, i would like to report a VERY inappropriate site! Id rather not post it here though, if some moderator will let me PM the site to them it would be appreciated!

As Fusion said you can find ikonboard at www.ikonboard.com . Jelsoft is not associated with ikonboard is any way. Keep in mind ikonboard is free so you will probably find there is very little they can do about it.

As far as vBulletin goes, we rarely revoke licenses for site content. The only exceptions are for warez/illegal software trading. In general, however, what a user does with their board, and what content they choose to allow, is up to them.

Cracking deals in illegal distribution or modification of software, so yes.

With hacking it would depend on what exactly the discussions were about.

          The vBulletin license says
vBulletin may not be used for anything that would represent or is associated with an Intellectual Property Violation, including, but not limited to, engaging in any activity that infringes or misappropriates the intellectual property rights of others, including copyrights, trademarks, service marks, trade secrets, software piracy, and patents held by individuals, corporations, or other entities.

Then it will be answered and dealt with there. The vBulletin Support Forums are no place to receive answers on this.

isn't the DMCA a wonderfull, right stealing tool?

I'd love it if someone leased a car and the dealer says, "you can use this, but you can't carry dogs, kids, groceries, or drive on 2 lane roads in the morning when it's raining"

First thing: No-one has the right to do illegal activities (such as running a warez / cracking board). Just as I do not have the right to break into Jelsoft's or Microsoft's headquarters and steal their computers and equipment, I also do not have the right to take a copy of their code without paying for it. No-one has the right to commit crime.

Second, if anyone is saying that Jelsoft is stealing their rights because they can't use their software for illegal activities, then keep in mind that you've bought a license, not the software itself.

                1) Jelsoft developed vBulletin, and as it is their property, they have the right to sell it or license it in any way they see fit. They chose to sell licenses as any commercial software producer would.

                2) They make their terms VERY clear when you purchase/lease your license. In case you didn't know, rental car companies and other lease agreements have stipulations that they also make clear up-front, when they license you to drive their vehicle for a fixed amount of time. Examples: "You may not drive this vehicle out of state", or "You may not commit any illegal activity while using this car." Such stipulations are a legal necessity to those whose product you are using; often when someone misuses the property involved, the victims sue whoever has the deepest pockets (i.e. the owner of the property).

                3) You have the full right to NOT buy a license or sign a lease agreement if you do not accept the terms. This decision is at your FULL DISCRETION. However, by buying a license to use the software (or other product), you are accepting the terms of the licensing agreement. As in any contract, you are bound to the terms, and if you violate them, the other party has every right to terminate the contract, revoking your license.

Without these protections -- without this system -- no small software creator could ever create a quality product and keep it successful. The alternative to these "overly intrusive" terms is no software at all. They don't owe anyone anything.

The dealer could very easily put that in the contract that you must sign when leasing the car. Many apartments don't allow pets. Is that taking away your rights too?

In all of these cases, the terms are known upfront and you are not being forced to purchase a license. If you choose to purchase a license, you choose to abide by the license terms.

And in any case, the DMCA had no bearing on the license that Jelsoft drew up, considering Jelsoft is based in England, not the US.

Finally, our license terms are not up for discussion. If you don't agree with them, I'm sorry but we won't be able to issue you a license.
