    Suggestions for a free board?

I need to get a free board to use for a university site i am doing, only feature that is essential is allowing unregistered posting and being able to have a restricted forum for members i choose to give entry to.

I tried ikonboard but there seems to be lots of cookie problems. I think it will be boardpower unless any other suggestions? Not sure i like the look of Yabb, a bit messy interface.

    What do you think?

Oh, it is going to be a small board, flat file is ok.

You could try the freeware version of UltraBoard (something like 1.61). I don't think it's on their site anymore (I haven't been to it for awhile, so I could be wrong about that) but I know you can still find it other places.

The cookie issues with IkonBoard have been fixed. They just released a new version that fixes most problems. If you still have problems, the guy that writes it can tell you how to fix it.

may go for phpbb but not sure. Might be able to get the university to pay the license fee in the end which would make it easier !

Being your a registered user you should ask Jelsoft about an affiliate type deal, I'm sure a University site would bring new customers, if they were smart they would give you a limited free lic. for that one site with a link back logo to vBulletin.com

All they can say is no

P.S. Checked out http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/ looks good, but I found several bugs just browsing, have you found out when they will be releasing it.

James may say no, but some old guy use to tell me "nothing ventured, nothing gained"

I went back to PHPbb and they must have disabled the link?

                        Hey Chris (Padders?)

I'm the guy responisble for Ikonboard.

It's true that there were a lot of cookie issues in early versions, but that was down to a bug in the CGI.pm (perl module). This bug affected all versions below v2.51 in that it wouldn't set cookies to IE5 or NN4+

I've written a work around, and I'm happy to say that the issue is resolved. The board now functions properly on UNIX and NT.

(vBulletin Moderators: I'm not advertising anything here, just replying to a message, hence the lack of a link to Ikonboards site)

I installed the ikonboard, and while it does look fairly nice, it is really limited as far as admin options and whatnot are concerned. A nice free forum, but not matching vbulletin at this point by my standards. Like I said, it is a nice free forum however.
