I'm sure I will love it, I just have to work up the nerve to start playing with IIS. We got an NT server instead of a Linux, so it's all pretty well new to me. So far, IIS (thru MMC) is a real motherhumper. Not as easy as everyone said.

I'm still half scared to try to install PHP and mySQL, even though the instructions look really simple. I need to get it up and runing this weekend, though, so I can move my forums over next week.

If you are running NT 4 then PHP and MYSQL install very easily. And I don't know what the problems are with MMC - i think it's much better then having to use a telnet session to administer my server.

I've had major problems getting PHP to run on IIS 5. It seems that everytime I run a PHP script it stops the WWW Publishing Server. Any one had any problems like this?

someone said before tha they were having probs running php as ISAPI, but when they changed it to CGI everything worked well.

It turns out that the problem we were having was that they misconfigured the server. I got on the phone with support last night and they fixed it up right.

Now I just have to figger out how to add IP's. Can ya gimme easy instructions on that?

              Hi,
Thanks for the tip - I'll try it out.

As for adding IPs to an NT box, here ya go:

Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click on Network and select the Protocols tab. Double click on TCP/IP
On the IP Address tab click Advanced
Under IP Addresses select Add. The rest is obvious.

To set up several web sites running on different IP Addresses click the Internet Service Manager (mmc) from the start menu.
Right click on the web site you want and click properties. Select from the drop down menu the IP Address you wish to use.

If you want to know how to run multiple web sites from one IP, just ask!

              All the best,

                  another quick ? for ya...

I added an IP, now it's telling me that "at least one adapter card has an empty primary WINS address. do you want to continue?"

                  wtf is that?

I can't find anything of this stuff in the documentation

Ahh!! WINS is kinda like DNS - it works to resolve NetBIOS names into IP Addresses. Just ignore that and carry on (everything will be ok).
