I dont care if they double the costs. What's important is what is has to offer in terms of functionality, performance, code quality, UXD, SEO. If its a major update in features, and its worth updating from vb3 without question, then I will go for it. If its another pile of bugs, or if it offers nothing that I need, then I will move away to another platform.

Guess it correctly and you could win a vB5 package!

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

One important point is that you don't have to upgrade, and the choice is up to you. But looking at the price of vb 3.8 --> vb 4.0 , I doubt that vb 4.2 --> vb 5.0 move will be cheaper.

I'm guessing the quality will be there, but I still think there is a big whole issue with the different licensing models. You buy version X and you can get the updates for that version, which is great, but when they move to the next version you basically have to re-buy, seeing as the discount isn't that much compared with the full price IMHO. I don't like the way that an extra discount is offered for early adopters, we've seen what has happened to those people supported vB Mobile from the start.

Also vBulletin Mobile doesn't fit into this pricing model either, as you have to pay per year to renew. I hope with vB5 that hey clear some of these things up.

It's very early in the game. If IB has learned anything at all in the past few years, I would hope they've learned to be more open, fair, honest and clear about the product well before the release date.

Once VB5 is out, no more features will be released for vb4.... so you will be forced to upgrade if you want those "featured".

see vb 3.8, nothing new since vb4 comes out.

Hmm. I don't know. I probably won't have the money to go out and buy it. I may though, depending on the reviews it gets

Wouldn't it nice if 4.3 had most of what 5.0 has after 5.0 is out.
                      Ok I'll wake up now.

That'd be a slightly hopeless business decision on IB's part, really...."hey, let's give everyone a reason NOT to buy vB5...."

I agree and wonder why 5.0 would be released before they are finished with 4.3. Even if only a day separates the two.

I would imagine it has a defined development cycle which will be completed.

I would suspect that it is simply NOT KNOWN whether 4.3 will come before or after 5.0....a number of factors can determine that.

It's not as if 4.3 suddenly becomes unsupported with 5.0 coming out.
