    Will you be upgrading ?

I definitely won't be rushing out to get this, after the debacle of :
    • the complete change of licensing model of the vb3 -> vb4, once IBB took over
    • delays and errors on vb4
    • issues and delays on vb4-mobile
Just the general bad taste I have in my mouth of being invested in this product that used to cost $30 / year, to get updates and now you have to pay $150+ to upgrade per release.

I'll upgrade because I'm an upgrade junkie. Whether I regret it or not remains to be seen, but once it's done there's no turning back, so I have to adapt. Like the Borg. I will adapt, I must comply, resistance is futile.

Almost definitely, though not straight away as I will need time to convert everything that is currently on my site. My site policy is that no upgrade should ever downgrade available functionality, otherwise why bother?

So yes, in due course, but it won't be on launch day, it never is for me and rightly so.

So once vb5 is out, the development of vb4 stops?

The devs have indicated this isn't necessarily the case, in that 4.3 might come out after 5.0, however I don't think much will happen on vB4 beyond 4.3. After that I would imagine all focus will move to vB5 and rightly so.

vB2 was not developed after vB3 came out.

You only need one "remains to be seen". Trying to split it into two options is flawed.
RTS would be my answer [as a site owner] but not for either of those reasons, so I simply cannot vote at all.

Im confident very few people would blindly upgrade to something they havent seen yet.

Really I think it's too early for the poll. "Remains to be seen" probably applies to everyone. For instance, I absolutely plan to upgrade, but by the same token I haven't seen the product yet. So yes I will upgrade, but subject to all the usual caveats that apply to these things.

I couldn't even say 100% that I will upgrade to 4.3. For starters it's possible 5.0 will already be out by that time. But also we don't yet know what's in it. So whilst it's extremely likely that I will, it's impossible to confirm anything at this stage.

Eventually!! But as it is a BIG change we'll wait and do a lot of testing

Oh i am the First who looks at quality? The Cost has for me nothing to do with it. For nice Software i would pay 1000 Dollar. For me it is all about the quality and the User Experience. So i hope that vB 5 will be a great Piece of Software. If not we have to change.

                      I'm interested in vb5.

Hopefully it will support migrations from vb3.

Upgrades support migrations from earlier versions.
Perhaps they do not support modifications made for that earlier version.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

It matter what is in it and if I want or need what is offered. Today it would be no. When it comes out I may change my mind.

It should support upgrades from 3.8.x, beyond that is less certain.
Of course you could do it in two steps, 3.x > 4.2 and then 4.2 > 5.0.

Same. I don't care about cost, I care about security, stability and that it just works. I will upgrade but if this version sucks as bad as 4 did when it first came online, I don't think I will withstand another gong show like that again.
                              Cheers!
