FBI wants vBulletin to have a backdoor

So The FBI is trying to pass a law (when did they have such rights to do so?) that would make it a mandatory requirement for any social networking site or software (forums count as social networking) to have an unrestricted, unlimited, and warrant free backdoor.

    This includes everyone here.

It would still be a mandatory requirement.

It would be a felony (violation of federal law) to prevent or close the backdoor.

Assuming you'd find away to release such a solution else where, because it would be illegal to allow such content posted on for example, phpBB. And even if you could pass that around to people some how... Anyone who is American caught using it would have broken the law.

Really hope this gets noticed by everyone as to shut down this madness.

An informative public is an educated public and least likely to have such things go un-noticed.

Good luck with what you believe to be right.
Right? Who says I want to be right? I'd like to be wrong. We'd all do better if I was. And I think the editor / author of Cnet would agree.

You clearly do not know what it means to be Anonymous. Not everyone in Anonymous is a hacker and not all of us feel the need to hide.

We need a 'stop CALEA now' campaign.

That precaution would have worked 10 years ago. The current technologies are much more sophisticated than flagging a few keywords. And it applies to PMs as well.

I wonder about the security & vulnerability implications of this.

Interesting article since I'm working on a audio/video chat system. Privacy seems to be an illusion at the very least these days.

They want a backdoor on everything. Google offers a backdoor for them. There are many organizations using power in ways that shouldn't happen... I don't agree with the idea. vBulletin is forum software and this would violate every legal right you have as an individual... but I do agree that the law and the legal system is far behind on keeping society safe and better as a whole then the individual... It's a great story... thanks for the post!
