SOPA / Protect IP / PIPA Block Out

Websites Wikipedia, Reddit, Tucows, Boning Boning, Others Go Dark Wednesday to Protest SOPA, Protect IP, PIPA

Anyone else here plan to go dark?

Google first said they would add a link and then I hard they may make their page black, rather than the normal white. Would shock a lot of people if they blacked out though, but it would also educate a lot of people (biggest target audience)

SociallyUncensored.eu (my site) will be joining this too.
It will make for a good time (excuse) to do some tweaking while the site is offline and of course help the cause.

If you're NOT an American or your site is NOT an American site and you think this doesn't affect you... You're wrong.

Thank you for protesting SOPA & Protect IP

You're not alone... 1/2 of the sites I visit have gone dark. I suspect more will in the morning. Mine did about 1 hour early.

            Mozilla Firefox joins in

Congress is considering the most talked-about copyright legislation in a decade, known as Protect IP (PIPA) in the Senate and Stop Online Piracy (SOPA) in the House. Today, Mozilla announced that we’ll join with other sites in a virtual strike to protest PIPA/SOPA. SOPA makes all of us potential criminals if we don’t become the […]

Its getting hard to find sites that have not joined.

No.. it really isn't. Some big ones have gotten on it, and good for them, but 90+% of all internet traffic will be unaffected.

Wikipedia might have gone dark but they're still letting you access it:

s it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way?

Yes. During the blackout, Wikipedia is accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. You can also view Wikipedia normally by disabling JavaScript in your browser, as explained on this Technical FAQ page. Our purpose here isn't to make it completely impossible for people to read Wikipedia, and it's okay for you to circumvent the blackout. We just want to make sure you see our message.
Makes it all a bit pointless in that case...

Google cache is your friend. As to the topic at hand, seems to be just another part of this "protest" mentality in the world today and really sort of stupid considering the legislation won't pass anyway (and no, not because of these "protests").

Hmmm, so this is why I couldnt get on wikipedia earlier.

                            Great.

The only effect its having is annoying people who want to look up something.

Any website registered in the USA, including any .com and any .net is subject to a judge in the USA shutting it down for any reason. That's copyright, terroristic threat (which means pretty much anything these days).

A popular sports website in Spain found this out, and their domain was taken over for 11 MONTHS with no recourse or grievance process, despite having not violated any copyrights.

And don't forget folks. If you live in the UK, you can be extradited to the US under all of our wonderful copyright laws for even 1 infringing case.
