Money or myth?

In 1989 I was introduced to the internet. During the 90's it was called the internet boom, or the internet bubble, not sure, I didn't may too much attention to it.
In the 90's, money was to be made on the internet. I expect it is true today. I see topics related to adsense and other mentions of people losing money because of various problems with software functionality etc.

I am rather new to the forum world as you can see from my date of entry, also, based on the current average, I am roughly 1700+ bug fixes away from my 50th year.

All that aside, you can see where I am going with this topic. It is an easy question to answer.
If yes, maybe you can provide details.
If no, then you may learn something.

The obvious question is: Do you make money from your website?

Thank you for your brief reply.

Would you want to make money form your site? I know it sounds like a strange question but there are others who choose not to make money for ethical reasons or other.

Thanks for your response.

What is it that allows a person to earn?

Is it content?
Number of users?
Both?

The goal of my OT forum is to generate enough money to pay its own bills, hosting, licences, domain registrations, etc... If there is extra money I run a contest for the users. Not attempting to get rich off the site, wouldn't be possible even if I was, though.

Paying it's own bills is good enough for me too.

What makes a site attractive to advertising types? I am guessing it is the number of people who visit.

Traffic (# of people) is part of it, but a big part is also to have a specific topic, like a type of car or a type of video game, or phone, this way advertisers pay a lot more knowing the type of people reading the site. A general discussion site, like mine, advertisers don't like much because it is hard yo target the ads.

Is there a ball park figure for number of people to attract an ad? Is there a ball park figure for how much one ad is worth?

What? I thought you're Turkish.
So you're Uyghur?

Edit:
Ah! I forgot Turkey doesn't allow YouTube.

An indication of the country mentioned in the other post may tell you were I am located. As for nationality, I think you might already be clued up on that enigma.

earnings depends always on Traffic ... the more traffic u have.. more chance of ad clicks.. that gives more money

No specific rate for each click.. that depends on advertisers

Adsense is the TOP of all Ad publishing networks. Remember invalid clicks / force clicks never been accepted.. they just ban u simply.

HOw to get Traffic ?

Write max Own posts , specify good searching heading for that post.
SEF urls for ur posts
Submit Site to google webmaster tools. Along with SITEMAP

Google starts crawling ur site... gradually u will get more traffic as ur site will be indexed on google.

I've never submitted a sitemap to Google and Google has my new posts indexed within a couple hours sometimes- I have never seen any benefit of using a sitemap on a URL Google already indexes.

Just my 2 cents.

google can index with & without sitemaps..

With sitemap : more effective , Quick index etc

With out Sitemap : make take time to index.

Official Google Sitemaps Article:
http://support.google.com/webmasters...&answer=156184

with out any use they wont write all those i think @joe

Off course joe is an well experienced man. I am not enough to say him. Just i can say There is use of sitemap.

If there is no use of Sitemap , VB wont integrate sitemap option in Admin panel :P
