    Computer Chat Ports

What is the reason for opening ports?
Why do we want to open them?
Can you tell me why ports 21, 25, 80, 443, 3074 and 32285 would want to be opened?

Is there a reason for them to be opened? I mean for your average home computer uses, there isn't any purpose to open them right? Or if you have a server, why do we open those ports? I'm asking these questions because my professor is asking about it and I can't find answers on google x.x

Are you asking about opening ports on your home computer or your server?

For a server, those ports need to be open to get and or send data.

              Port 21 is ftp
              Port 25 is SMTP (Email)
Port 80 is web sites without SSL
Port 443 is SSL encrypted sites
