    screencap software

I am looking for some screencap software. I don't mind if it is free or if is commercial (not to expensive) so long that it is easy to take screencaps of a window, the whole screen or a select area and preferable be configurable to output them as a jpeg file at a specified compression level. I have to take a few hundred so having it a speedy process would be nice.

Anyone got any ideas? So far I am using analogx's screencap software but wondering if there is anything better.

I always just use the Print Screen key.

There is a program I've used called Deskcam, however. You can get it at iamcal software. What it does is it takes a screencap of your desktop, resizes it to whatever size you specify, and saves it as a file either on your computer or on your website. You can't choose any certain window to capture though, just the whole desktop.

crap I was about to suggest that..

Paint Shop Pro 5 had one when I used it a long while ago. IIRC it was pretty extensive.

Hypersnap is also a fairly popular program. The freeware watermarks it though.

I personally use Screen Shot Deluxe 4. You can take images of whole web pages (even if there's a scroll bar it'll capture the whole page), do timed shots (a shot every X seconds), configurable options including the type of file to save (sorry no compression settings for jpg), what to capture (e.g. active window, whole screen, just an area, etc.) assignable to F keys, a really cheap in-built editor, a couple other things. Pretty nice (except for the editor).

Try a little program called Grabber2k. Freeware, works pretty well.

yeah print screen key is the best..

but if you like to pay for it get snagit - do a search on the net and you'll find snagit is pretty good it can do timed screen caps for capturing video streams etc as well or auto scroll a full web page and capture the whole thing in one long screen cap

I've always just used print screen, though I am looking seriously at getting a copy of the program Kevin recommended as I like the feature of capturing a whole web page regardless of scrollbars.

                      I vote for Snagit too.

By the way, how does that Print Screen Key thing work? I just pressed it and nothing happened. I'm running w2k professional.
                      Well, there it is.

Print Screen (and Alt-PrintScreen) places the screen image into the clipboard which you can then paste as a new image using your graphics program.

I also just use Screen Shot, or with Alt if I only want to capture the current window.

Screen cap software... what's next, a program to help you pee? (sorry)
