    how did they hack me?

Somehow 'they' got ahold of my yahoo email Contacts list and sent spam from my email address (but it doesn't look like they actually sent them from my yahoo email account).

How on earth did these geniuses do that?

there are several ways to crack a yahoo password
change your pass, and change your email address and hope they didn't "info crack" you
in other-words, using your secret question to reset your password

They didn't change my password nor did they change my secret questions.

How did they get into my Contact List without my password?

How could it be my host if my Yahoo account wasn't breached?

Don't worry too much. Today seems from your address, tomorrow seems from my address.
No,they did not send it from your address.

Lots of people in my Contacts list accused me because it shows it came from my email address. I also received it at my work email address from my yahoo email.

Don't be surprised if you receive an email from your Yahoo email address to your Yahoo email address.
And it is not only Yahoo.

Do you mean other web-based email services are having this same problem?

                        Yes,they do.
You might receive several hundred bounced back emails ,sent all from your address.
                        Seems,from your address.
                        Falsified headers do the trick.

So where was the vulnerability? How did they access my Yahoo contacts list if they didn't have access to my Yahoo password?

                            Many possibilities.
One of them:Send some email to someone and CC them to all your contacts.

I don't understand that. How did they get my contacts if they didn't have my password?
