Why does everyone take one look at a beta and then for some reason throw their toys out of the cot? This is a beta and is still being worked on. Do the math everyone!Comment
-
First impressions are everything. It might be a beta, but people see the style, form their opinions and then rarely change them.Comment
-
doesnt matter if its beta. we have seen in several versions of vb beta that not much changes along the road to the gold release...this is what they are going to stick with. guarantee.Comment

And I for one am ok with that. This style has some very good improvements, I'm 65-70% satisfied with the look, even if the other 35-30% doesn't get better I know I will be able to change that on my own site.Comment

This style is largely how it will be. They are working on bugfixes and style tweaks and it's certainly a long way from being finished. But what they are NOT going to do is sit down and say "that's rubbish, let's start all over again". What you see at Gold will look broadly similar to what you see now.MARK.B

Beta or not, this software looks and feels absolutely horrendous now. I will not be upgrading.Comment

What makes you say thatthis software looks and feels absolutely horrendous nowComment

I mean no disrespect, Zachery. I've been a huge vbulletin fan and sung it's praises since I bought my first license from you guys around 1999 or so. I've bought almost a dozen licenses over the years, and I think you guys are an incredibly talented crew of developers.
That said, I do not like it at all, and all of the other forum owners I've talked to seem to feel the same way. Perhaps with a different skin it will shine, but right now I see what looks like the bastard son of a mating between IPB and phpBB. The Web2.0 look just feels all sorts of tacky, and I think that may have a lot to do with it. I will certainly run it on a testbed and see if I can skin it to make it look as crisp and clean as 3.x does, and hopefully with a better theme it won't just strike me as so immediately awful - which, just in my humble opinion, is the vibe I'm getting from the beta.
Again, I can't say enough good things about you guys and the fantastic products I've gotten from you over the last 10 years, but that's just how I'm feeling about 4.x right now. :\Comment

But _why_ don't you like it. You realize that right now while we're in beta you have the best chance of making any changes.
Honestly they've been very receptive to all of our feedback on the style and its making progress
The style has made huge long strides in its functionality and useablity since alpha.
I really want to stress this: Tell us why, we'll take your feedback and do our best with it.Comment

Except for the obvious bugs which I know will be fixed, that is the only thing that bothers me, because it is difficult to read these support forums.Comment

It's not the font choice, but the color and size. I can tolerate reading this forum for a few minutes at best. The font size is too small and the gray color font doesn't have enough contrast.
Nobody ever complained that the font size and color was wrong in vB3. So go back to that size and color ASAP.Comment

If I may be so bold as to butt in, the font is terrible. As discussed about 24hours ago in some posts with Steve and Wayne.

I don't personally believe they should have released the beta onto this site until the closed beta had atleast a good week or two of reporting and fixing all these issues which have just caused negativity on a grander scale.
Added: And I somehow think what just happened backed up that above statement. The quick reply text I am writing here just wrote completely off the screen and did not wrap. Wow... haven't seen that before.Last edited by anthonyparsons; Sat 31 Oct '09, 1:16am.Comment
