So are you saying the vBulletin will have seo friendly urls soon?
.org/forumdisplay.php?f=1
to
.org/welcome/
Or you think it has no effect on the search engines.Comment

Don't count me on this, I have no idea, but I hope it might not look like
forumdisplay.php/2-Forum
But I'm not sure, so take what you see and move on.Last edited by Shamil.; Sat 19 Sep '09, 3:32pm.Shamil Nunhuck, - Radon Systems Ltd.

Yes, this was announced by VB staff already somewhere upon this forum. So many threads and posts about vb4... but it exists here somewhere.
Nobody knows what the outcome is that vb will use, though I would suspect it will likely be one or two options at most. Again, until they release such information, nobody could really tell you outside of vb staff.
How the URL's are rewritten are really here nor there for SEO purposes... and including page names in URL's is an old technique, one which really does little for SE listings now. They often do more damage than good.
Shorter the better I say.
The things you read now about names in URL's and all that garbage, it has been and gone, had its day, and no longer is it effective. It was used and abused, so SE's just stop putting relelvance on such things for ranking purposes.
Content is the main factor you need to concentrate upon, not all this other SEO nonsense. Page titles must reflect the content, the content must be good to be linked too, this will all in turn begin showing up traffic.Comment

hello ,
i do think too , that you did make the right decision ,
but i wonder , why to lose any of the indexed pages ,
and why to face a lots of 404 pages ,
while you can redirect the "vbseo" url's to the original "vbulletin" url's?
vbseo : After uninstallation you can also redirect your indexed content to original vBulletin urls. Please carefully check the rewrite rules and use the one that fits your current url structure. If your url structure isn't listed below please post a sample example so we can supply the correct rules.

anyways dean c , i am not disccusing this point , it doesnt matter if u created the rewrite rules or asked vbseo to provide you the rules.
the main point , is why to lose all indexed pages while u can redirect the indexed content ?and why to have "404" pages , while u can solve this issue?Comment

Thanks Goyo and Wayne.
Sorry Wayne, I just couldn't find that blog post I had read... but I also do not take anything I read about VB4 as solid at this time, because things are being changed constantly.
Hi Jenn, and thank you... Yes, I am aware of the rewrite rules and this was discussed earlier in this thread. I am personally happy to take the hit now from search engines, and to make things even simpler, a 404 page can just be redirected to the homepage or even a custom one designed to cater. Because vbulletin are fixing this out of the box, I do not personally want to have redirects going to vb standard URL's, to then have redirects from the standard URL's to the new friendly version via the vb software. Search engines don't like doing that type of stuff... it often causes more issues than good, so I figure its better to take the hit now and suffer the consequences to start fresh with the standard vbulletin product without redirect complications.Last edited by anthonyparsons; Sun 20 Sep '09, 2:47pm.Comment

by dog-tagHello,
I would like to know the future SEO functions of vBulletin 5?
Will it be a case of spending another $150 on vbseo, or will vbulletin take this seriously?
