Removed VBSEO - Feel Confident About The Decision

Yer... I figure I am accepting in the traffic dip now, and knowing the VB will have the built-in redirect is even better. I was thinking when I did this yesterday, do I or don't I write redirect rules or just suck it up and take the hit now, then not worry about it again. I took the later and figured it is just better to take the smack across the knuckles now from search engines, then not worry about it going forward sticking with vb out of the box solutions.
From what I found on vbseo about people rewriting uninstall jobs to assist, it seemed to stop pretty quick because a lot went for that option. Nothing for me against vbseo... good product, good niche, best of luck, but for me I want to get my forums as close to out of the box as possible with these aspects. I figure and could not assume why this would change, that once VB make such changes into the software, then those changes are then supported for all time going forward, otherwise you would have a lot of upset customers, which I honestly don't see occurring. Atleast solutions would be more readily available as I see it, which is what my reasoning is towards this decision.
A bit over 110,000 posts, and I am running a link program through it now to get a list of posts where other posts have been referenced, and I will then change them back to the stock URL slowly and progressively, so the I don't have bad links all through my forums nor have to run custom mod_rewrite solutions. If I have to change a couple thousand links in posts that reference existing rewritten URL's, I accepted that before changing... it won't take long with a few of us doing it.
Pretty happy with this though to fix this issue now and not later, as the forum has just moved to 10k posts a month, which is funny, where it took 4 years to get to a hundred thousand posts, now ten thousand every month... go figure. This is one thing that also pushed me along... change now before the problem got worse and I was going to endup basically fixed to a third party product for all time because the consequences would have been to great in another year or more to change. Eek...
Excellent to read others view on this... helps greatly and I do love to learn.Comment

You should benchmark your stats to do a before and after. Yours might be the first for an uninstall.Plan, Do, Check, Act!Comment

URL jet but it is more than that. They optimize it and do some mojo... don't know but they claim its great.
This is a new forum and I want to get this rolling. I'm willing to pay a bit to optimize it. You don't think it is worth it?Comment

I aways thought that for vBulletin, no other SEO was needed really if you use their vBSEO product. Can't really see why you would have to spend another $200 on top of it really. Out of interest, what other SEO things have they said they would do, that vBSEO doesn't cover?
They must have given you their speel on this and that they can do.Comment

Over the years I have also had the opportunity to interact with many of the vBSEO staff members which is why if you are asking if it is worth $200 to have somebody else install it for you & "optimize" it then I would have to emphatically say 'no' without even thinking about it. Whether you install vBSEO yourself or have them do it (at only $79), those guys are great at providing support for the product.
Since you already have the license, please, before you spend any more money, take a look through their support forums and get a feel for how they handle post-sales support. And if the problem is that you're not comfortable installing it yourself, then have those guys install it for you at less than half the price you were about to spend and then bug the heck out of them in the forums with any questions you might have.
For $200, that would be my question as well. Since that price is well above the installation price from the actual software vendor, then what other service above & beyond installing vBSEO would be included?Cool Sci-Fi | Walking DeadComment

Now I can't complain about urljet because when I purchased their hosting for 6months, they installed the script with the blogs for free. They will add 5 templates, other mods for the $40s range. The SEO opt. is the only expensive thing and I have not even purchased it yet.
I did purchase vbseo but I had to turn off the program because when I turned it on I got a 404 on all my forums and subforums. I need to figure out what to do.
I plan to use the twitter and adsense part so im sure I will find use for it.
and I like the permalinks with the title.Last edited by nurse_emily; Fri 18 Sep '09, 7:15pm.Comment

Emily, I used to be pretty well engaged in the SEO field for near a decade, and I can tell you that there are more ripoffs within it than legitimate marketing experts. Anyone who tells you that they can tweak this or tweak that to get better results, immediately think twice. I honestly used to get sick of having people come to me after they had been burnt, then having to undo much of what these nonsense people have done, demonstrate real marketing influence and technique vs. magical SEO tactics. SEO is dead... you need a marketing strategy if you want to launch your website.
I put a couple of tips somewhere else on this forum the other day about this exact thing... maybe seek those out and spend your money better elsewhere that will give real exposure of your website to the world in the right places. It really is not a matter of building a website, doing some voodoo SEO tactics and sit back and enjoy the traffic... it is fraudulent, please believe me on this.
VBSEO offer a product, I am not saying that is fraudulent, because its not. It does do some small things to benefit your site, especially if your unable to perform these things yourself by modifying templates. VBSEO is a one stop solution so you don't have to know 100 different things, instead they are done for you. Saying that... do you need those 100 things? No... not these days. I you said you where going to run an auto forum, then I would tell you to buy it. If you told me you where going to run a niche forum that is specific to either an illness or smaller industry, I would say its not needed... you can buy it, but its not essential in achieving what you want to achieve for traffic.
If you want to know about everything SEO, go review a credible global source such as Aaron Wall and his advice. He is very expensive, though he has lots of free advice written all over the web that will suffice your needs. You will get a better idea of what to go towards and what to stay away from upon the web. Again, there are more ripoffs within the SEO field online than there are legitimate marketers.
I am not going to put down who you are with or your decisions to date, but honestly, if you don't want to see responses like above, I would honestly ask professionals across a vast span before spending money online with products or services, because you will likely find people who will do it for nothing or much cheaper than what you are paying.
As given above... to install VBSEO, you either know how to do it yourself, or you get someone from VBSEO to help you or install it for you. They will actually talk you through it upon the forum, for free, because you are an existing customer. As you hit an issue, enter it on their forum and they will help you, or someone from the community will help you.
I removed the product because its not something I need now, as the new vbulletin version will include the important search engine friendly aspects of the box, so having a third party product performing all these other aspects which I just don't use... no longer served a purpose for me. For some it is important, for others it is not. There is no right or wrong to having it or not having VBSEO. Its personal choice. Again though... basically lots are advising you here... you're being ripped in some areas, and that may or may not concern you. If not, keep doing what you're doing. If so, then seek advice for a variety of sources to determine a more conclusive outcome and solution for yourself.

by dog-tagHello,
I would like to know the future SEO functions of vBulletin 5?
Will it be a case of spending another $150 on vbseo, or will vbulletin take this seriously?
