Cool Message Board .com TESTERS REQUIRED!!

Volunteers are required to test a new FREE Cool Message Board!

    Cool Message Board

The script is in Active Server Pages, so you'll need an NT server when we release the code, but we're more than capable to host your boards for FREE if you haven't got the hardware.

Please remember that the basic functionality is in place but there is still a lot of work to be done as the new features are being added. The customized user interface has yet to be built also, but it should come together pretty quickly and with very few bugs.

let's vB and CoolMB show UBB just how to make a BOARD come to life AT next to no cost!

    get a REDIRECT too!

I forgot to mention that you can have a cute descriptive web address too for your cool message board!
So no more difficult long boring URL's to remember.

    * great for people to remember your board *

    how about:-

    or

we also have the shorter CoolMB.com domain for those that hate to type!

Boy this is spam, go try to promote on your own support forum.

This Coolboard is threaded and not to my liking, that is for sure!

        interesting concept

I find it strangely amusing how you include a link to your site and the uncanny similarities of vB to UBB, to question the need for specialised volunteers. It should be taken as a compliment that vB has attracted my attention.

Most people who don't like threaded boards are the sort of people that don't understand the concept of recursion.

However, back to constructive discussion, which is the point of these boards...
One clear advantage that a threaded board has over a flat board is the fact that it's very clear who is replying to whom and no confusion occurs.
If you don't like threaded - fine - each to their own, although I should point out that CoolMB will also incorporate the Flat version too!
(so that should keep you mildly happy)

It's difficult to please all of the people all the time, but by creating and implementing *new ideas* as opposed to straight reproduction, it will create healthy competition.

My hat is off to all those that even attempt either a "flat" or "threaded" board and interface regardless of it's source. It takes a lot of hard work, effort & skill.

Threaded and only for NT. I could be wrong, but NT only accounts for less than 1/4 of the servers out there. You better do some demographic research... And even if you did host it, it would just be an EZBoard with threaded topics. What good is that??

          Thanks anyway...

I would not find that to amusing considering I own a licence of this software, do you?

It is obvious that this forum is very similar in looks, but it is cleanly written PHP from scratch, so that is where the similarity stops.

Most people who don't like threaded boards are the sort of people that don't understand the concept of recursion.
This is rediculous, and it does not even matter what I like, it is what my visitors like and are used to.

However, back to constructive discussion, which is the point of these boards...
You should really read before you post! This is not for your spamming I am sure. This is for people to test this software out, and ask questions before and after ordering a license of it.

Also, in referring to your "spam" comments, I believe that the posting was made in the correct forum.

TITLED: "A place to test things out "

I've genuinely asked for a specialised group of individuals who would be able to constructively criticise for free, to a place to test things out on an up and coming board. I can't think of more appropriate subject matter.

I believe you also forgot that this is for testing this software out, not recruiting testers for your site.

                      Demographics

                      now we're talking.

That's an interesting issue and if your figures of 25% are roughly correct, that's still an aweful lot of NT owners in need of some specialised software. The current scripts are either pretty lame or pretty expensive.

If the CEO of AOL or Microsoft offered you just 1% of their respective companies for FREE, would you turn them down based upon percentages?

There's no reason why the finished script can't be converted to other platforms. Don't think of limitations but of solutions, there are very few barriers to design and product, other than a closed mind.

                        negativity is all I see.

As an experienced developer, I am one of the few fortunate that do not have to pay for licensed software or off the shelf solutions. They're easy enough to build when you know how.

WebStyles - yes I am cheeky!

may be I did jump the gun a little by not understanding that this was for testing this board 'only' - it wasn't very clear and my excuse is that i've been working throughout the night and I'm quite tired.

though it is interesting to hear the views of qualified boarders that gives a 3rd perspective on development issues.

                            right to reply

Are members not allowed the right to reply or state a reasonable argument without it being taken the wrong way?

If there's a more appropriate "technology discussion" section, then someone please point me in that direction!

I'm a believer in open-ended and flexible board design and don't assume that things are fixed or limited because that is all you can see or that is all you are used to. That's a weak excuse.

                              found this board through UBB

Interesting that some are a bit touch over 'possible' spam where someone mentions another board.

Isn't that how we all found out about vB? A post in a UBB discussion board? I know that's how I found it.

                              The more options the better.

And an option that doesn't require the PHP and MySQL install is good. For some it's going to be too much to do. UBB was easy to setup because all you had to do was through things in a CGI bin. vB is a bit harder since you have to have specific software installed on your server.

I assume that most NT servers are already configured to handle ASP, so the setup would be easier than vB.
