    # of account deletion request

My community has about 25.000 members (created 2 years ago) and I get at least one, often up to five account deletion requests a day.
That does not sound like a healthy ratio to me.

I am interested to know a) how big your community is and b) how many account deletion requests you get from your members every day.

10K+ members, maybe one or two account deletion requests a year.

        I have 500 members roughly.

I have had 2. The first one I deleted the second one I advised them of our forum policy that all accounts are deleted if they have 9 months of no activity, and NOT to freely register on a board/community if you have no intentions of participating on it.

So 2 in what 19 months now?

I am thinking that maybe there are people who send harassing or other offensive private messages on my forum. Maybe that's the reason why so many members decide to leave the forum.
Does anybody have suggestions what to do?

Here's the question that begs to be asked:
Out of all those deletion requests, how many get fulfilled?

I figure it would be a pain to delete an account everytime someone wanted to go. As well, if that member caused controversy or potential legal liabilities, it's more of them just covering their ... back.

              Make it public.

Create an announcement (or a new thread in the news section) and ask the users why they want to leave. You don't want them to leave so you must show them that you care about them.
              That's the end of that!

I've had one. Yeah, just one in 5 years and from 7 sites with a total of about 8000 members (might be more, I haven't totted up in a long while). I don't allow deletions at all, so they started trolling. Result: User Banned and not deleted.

6.5K members, averaging around 1 request per month.... I feel like my site is gonna be the smallest one in the pot >_<

For some strange reason my wetalk.tv site is getting 1 request per month.
But all my other sites are getting 1 a year, perhaps 2.

                    I ignore account deletions.

I delete all of them, to protect their privacy. Of course I take a closer look at who wants their account deleted and how many posts they have.
The ones that want their account deleted always have a low post count and don't engage in the community that much.

That's not a bad idea. I was also thinking of adding a special page to the user cp, explaining the account deletion procedure (i.e. writing me a PM) and asking them to give a reason.

What about the PM problematic? I have many female members, and I don't want them to be put off because some idiot is sending them private messages...

Ususally the "PM" spammers are with only 1 or 2 posts. or less. you could possibly require say.. 20 posts before a user can send a private message.

IMO members usually want to be deleted simply because the forum is not to their tastes.

Can someone delete my posts in this thread? lol

Since commenting on this I've got one every day since then. I know it's you Wayne! rofl j/k

I just copy paste a response:

Sorry but we don't allow deletions of accounts until 9 months of inactivity or more, checked quarterly.

Thanks and have a great day,

I get one every month of so. 17.5k members...so I guess it's to be expected.

I don't allow account deletions, they are ignored most times.. I will ban a username, but banning is my preferred method.
