Depends on the mods you're using, and how many of it you have installed... the beauty of vBulletin's plugin system is that you can disable the plugins before you upgrade, so that the upgrade won't mess up your forums.

I only had around 10 plugins installed on my forum prior to upgrading to 3.7 (I was using 3.6.10). I disabled all of them, upgraded to 3.7, and then hunted vBulletin.org for updated versions of these mods. 9 out of 10 had updated 3.7 versions, so I downloaded and upgraded my plugins then reenabled them. Worked like a charm with no problems.

Now, if you're using mods/hacks that require you edit/modify vBulletin files and/or templates, you might have some problems since you'll have to first check for updated versions of these mods, and then re-edit the files/templates required.

The biggest mods I had were GARS, vBadvanced, Ultimate Side Columns and vBSEO Sitemap generator. I do my best to avoid modifications that require file edits and heavy template edits.

Personally, I'd recomend upgrading to 3.7, unless you have some very important mods that don't have updated versions, or if you don't want to be bothered adding/updating the mods.

If you decide NOT to upgrade, just make sure you keep abreast of all the security updates and fixes for your version...

You always have that option, just load an appropriate backup.

it's FAR too late for that.

that would mean 10,000 posts, 800 members, and all the rest to go with it would need to be either lost or back ported manually... neither of which i have time for.

all i can do at this point is hope vb4 comes out soon...

                  I feel for you there.
It's not my place to say, but rather than this, why not work to make the version you are 'stuck' with better? Even if not this version, perhaps it will help make V4 better. Explain what's so bad.

                    i've tried, no one listens.

I'm really at the point now where i either wait and pray for 4.0, or code my own custom bb solution.

Did you test 3.7 before you installed it? Because if you didn't, it's kind of as much your fault as anyone's.

Sometimes you really have useless comments Dilly and this is another one.

Interesting (at least for me since I haven't upgraded my 'main' site to 3.7 yet). Are there any parts of 3.7 that you can't turn off via the ACP that is making you regret updating?

One of my forums has 260k posts, 2100 active members, and I upgraded from 3.5.2 to 3.7 just fine. Prior to the upgrade, I also did a test backup and restore (both mySQL database and source files). If you plan it out correctly, there's no reason why you can't revert back. All my forums are on 3.7 now, and I'll never look back.
