    Computer Chat BD-rom or bluray?

    Hi there,

I am looking at a few Vaio models atm but not sure which is better BD-rom or bluray? That's how they are categorised. It's the first time I buy anything with bluray so consider me a rookie .

Also, I am guessing a either blu ray player will play normal DVDs/CDs and burn either (also bluray?).

    Thanks

It is the same thing. Someone hasn't been doing their research properly.

So why are they labelled differently on VAIO laptops :S? Are you certain?

Perhaps one is a writer and reader and the other is just a reader? They are both Blu-Ray but you could phone up Sony just to find out why they've labeled them differently (which isn't exactly consumer friendly :S).

As far as I know there are only 4 classifications of the BD drive in Vaios:
              • BD-ROM Read : 2x max.
              • BD-R Read : 2x max.
              • BD-RE Read : 2x max.
              • BD-R DL Read : 1.6x max.

So I guess when they say "BD Drive" it's just a plain vanilla BD movie reader, as opposed to the "BD-ROM" which might be able to read the other specifications. As someone said above, contact the manufacturer or distributor of the Vaio you're planning to buy... oh...
