I had a 'James' pop up on my forum, he managed to PM about 20 of my users before he got banned

Yep, new users on my forum can't PM or post without manual validation. After 15 posts, then it automatically promotes the account to regular. I haven't seen a spam thread in so long, I don't even know what it looks like.

I have this too, all you do is create a new usergroup based on registrered users.

Stephanie registered on my board and PMed about all 300 members

I don't want to spy on users PM's, so I'm adding the Report PM mod over at .org, so users can report any kind of spam which can then be looked into

James just registered my forum - banned him at once, I take no changes against these spammers.

I had the same problem with "Jeannette" a couple days ago.

The One-touch Spam Ban and Cleanup plugin got rid of the users and all of the PMs quickly though.

james420 @ 123mail.org was the registration email and 207.195.253.218 was the IP.

Yeah, but this is after the harm has been done, the trick is to prevent this kind of spam.

In my forums, new members can't use PMs at all.

Another username to watch out for is Jeanette. Same spam as this one, different name. I had to create a new registered user group that doesn't have PM privs to stop it.

That was my solution as well.
