    Spam Do you use reCAPATCHA?

    Hello

After I had upgraded to 3.7 b5, I noticed that the newest member didn't changed at all. I signed out, tried to register, and figured out that vBulletin capatcha doesn't show any characters, I don't know why. anyway I switched to reCAPATCHA and everything is OK.

    So do you use reCAPATCHA?

The vBulletin Captcha didn't show letters because you don't have freetype 2 support compiled into your PHP. PHP will compile Freetype 1 support by default unless you point it to the updated libraries.

I'm using reCAPTCHA, but the "old" image verification system always works for me against spammers and others.

I hated the old one since I am color blind and half the time I could see the letters just enough to know that they were there. Boy was that fun!

I use Captcha ImageMagick, but prefer to use GD (True Type) for it is easier to read. I did several more test on the reCAPTCHA system and was not really impress with how you do not have to be input correct characters, but do know the reason on how this type of verification works and still will not use it.

reCAPTCHA Verification is weaker then Image Verification in older version 3.x.x series. I have been testing on another members site and you do not need to input exact two words shown.

I have been testing it on mine for 30 minutes and seem that you really do not need to be accurate ever time or most times is more like it. I have acculmulated a list and I am not at all impress with how this works. I will stick with older method, as it still works correctly. At least you need to correctly input exact characters and not a simular like text.

Started using it and received less spam on my sites. I am going to stick with it for now.

I don't use any image-based captcha's anymore. They are inaccesible and half the time I can't read them and my eyes are fine with the lens' in. I kid you not, it took me 2minutes to get past one at yahoo last week. Captcha's have become such a pain nowadays that they're inhibiting human registrations.

I prefer asking questions or asking the user to do basic match. Of course it relies on the user being an english speaker but fortunately I don't participate in any other languages.

I have to say although it's amusing http://www.thepcspy.com/kittenauth is top notch. The principle behind it is quite clever. I coded something similar recently that asked a user to identify a particular object. I had a database of houses, cats, boats etc. About 100 things in total. Then I ask the user to pick the boat out of the 4 pictures, or the house etc. It's far more accesible than having to read text
