    Use Winzip

WinZip ensures safety and peace of mind with easy-to-use encryption capabilities to secure personal data, passwords, and sensitive information.

Winzip 6.5 and higher supports tar and tar.gz files natively. Even associates them properly in Windows so a double-click opens them.

I have been using Winzip 7 for two years now and never had a problem with this.

Unfortunately whilst winzip will work with php files etc it will screw your shell scripts if you uncompress an archive with winzip by adding invisable characters

If you still have trouble with tar.gz you can download phpnuke 5.1 as ZIP-File on my hp. See my sig.

hmm... it is the only thing I use and have never had a problem... I have had a problem with loading a file in a text editor such as notepad and it screwing things up due to carriage returns.

However I use TextPad and always edit text files in Unix format (no carriage returns) even in Windows and haven't had a problem since I started doing that.

In fact I don't even have Notepad on my machine anymore. It has been replaced with a stub that passes the document to Textpad which is used so much everyday that I have it in my startup group.
