PHP Designer '08 looks pretty nice, and I might use it if it was free software, but I'm not sure it's worth a ~$40 investment even for a student license. I've been using EditPlus with the basic syntax highlighting which has been fine for me. Some of the bells and whistles in the IDEs mentioned above might be nice, but not enough to justify the cost in my opinion.

Well if it's open to everyone, irregardless of the title of the thread I'd reccomend Eclipse with the PDT and SVN/CVS plugins. We use that at work and it works beautifully apart from when renaming files.

If it's OK to comment on this thread then I've used EditPlus2 for a long time before switching recently to UltraEdit32. Both are great but UE32 has more options and deals with Arabic script far better than EP2. The best editor that supports Arabic script & the problems of switching between RTL/LTR modes is FrontPage, but I've never used to do anything whatsoever.

i see just "one problem" with coding for vbulletin with and php ide
all the ide's have a realy great code completition which is not working with vb because in vb you don't user $user = new vbuser your using $user =& datamanager_init('User', $vbulletin, ERRTYPE_ARRAY);[/ot]

I use Eclipse since I'm too cheap for Zend.

I've used php designer 08 and didn't really care for it. I went back the HTML Kit. With the php/mysql and other plugins it's the program I use for all my editing.

I use Notetab Light, I like it because there is not one single file extention I've come accross yet that it can't deal with. I've edited php, html,.htaccess, css, and so on. Even javascript files

Im a mac user as well and use textmate and would recommend it. I bounce around between php and ruby on rails and then your typical html / css and it is a great all around editor.

Strangely enough, I think Floris might be the only vB staff to have replied to this thread so far

I was looking to try out Eclipse today, but for some reason it just loads the splash screen and dies in XP.

IMHO Zend Studio is the best of the best
It have automatic selection of functions, command and even the variables you are using in the program, give it a try

I've done pretty much all my website in Kate (linux).
