I currently have a 2.08 GHz processor (AMD) single core.

I'm about to upgrade to a QQ660 (Or something like that.). The Intel Quadcore. 2.44 GHz.

My Dell 250N notebook has a 2.4GHz P4 and 1Gb RAM. Needs a lot of wood to keep the steam pressure up. Slow as hell. I think the 37Gb HDD is about 5Krpm.

If I am doing a lot of copy/paste routines Netgear crashes it. The WG511 card gets really hot. I don't know why.

Never mind, it is getting replaced in a month or two, possible with a Dell Precision.

This makes the common error of thinking that more clock speed means more computation speed. Of course, the more clock cycles the better, but it's ever more important how much can the CPU do in each cycle. During the MHz myth era, intel used to artificially rise the clock speed at the cost of the amount of computations per cycle, resulting in slower CPUs comparing to the competition. So the question of the poll should be "how fast is your CPU's clock".

Most laptop processors today are variable speed actually... the speed quoted is the top speed when plugged in.

Mine's darn slow right now. I picked up some adware/spyware from somewhere (even tho I have a supposedly good firewall) that I'm having a heck of a time getting rid of.
