How often do you defrag your HD for your computer? I try to do one at least once a month unless i've done some big installs and removals.

Just when I read this thread! Been the last time a year or two ago.
I have 2 hard drives with 6 overall partitions. Only the C partition needed defragement. (Grrr Firefox didn't recognize the word so I'm not sure of the spelling)You're spending millions of dollars on a website?!

I defrag every month and for some reason I also zero my Hard Drive right after? Just a habit I guess, it takes 12 hours to do thou.Comment

Same as Wayne... I think the excessive defragmenting is a phase for most people. I know I was obsessed with doing it like once every (other) week about 10-15 years ago, but hardly ever since. Of course, back then defragging still made noticeable difference and recovered precious space, unlike now. I don't think I've defragged this box since I've bought it over a year ago. No need really, everything's running just fine. And it's not even fragmented that much despite my moving quite a lot of files around.Former endorsement revoked. You know the saying - one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel...Comment

Isn't even needed on Windows based computers unless you're using FAT16/32 still. On NTFS, like all journaled file systems, there is no practical benefit to defragging a drive.
Even if you needed to, its a lot more time efficient to zero out the drive through formatting and slamming it with your operating system off DVD images. Especially when you get over 100 GB drives.Translations provided by Google.
