Was my domain worth so much?

I just bought the domain name Jeffin.com (no site just the name) which is also my name for US$300. Do you think I've paid right or too much? I was just too desperate for this name. Would you have paid so much?

You paid 100 times as much as you normally would for a domain. Is it 100 times as important to have that domain instead of another one?

I guess i was obsessed with the name. Its short and memorable to me.

A domain no matter what it may be is only worth as much as a person is willing to pay for it. If the other extensions of the domain are taken then the .com's value certainly does go up. But it is not worth $300.

Ideally your domain at this point is worth Reg fee & the value won't grow unless there is a reason behind the name. Make it into a company of some sort and the domain would grow dollar wise.

Domains are an investment, there are many bad investments, many ok investments and few rare gems.

I would pay alot for a personal domain name, I want ben.com but I don't think I can afford it!

Well, not really. It depends on the domain doesn't it. After all, what's the .com of your name going to be worth to anyone else? Nothing, probably. What's it going to be worth to you? Well, more than nothing certainly. It's your name, not theirs. Even something like microsoft.com which would be worth something to anyone is still worth one hell of a lot more to microsoft than anyone else.

There's no real yardstick to judge these things by and if the buyer gets what they want then it's all good isn't it? Happy for you.

300? Thats only a little bit of money not much to worry about, just never let it expire lol.

I think thats way too much. You could have bought a domain for 10 dollars or even less and spent 250 dollars or whatever on good software such as vBulletin with a customized skin or whatever .

You should have gone for a cheap domain with your first and last name in it if it was available.

But of course, if you really wanted that domain, price doesn't matter.

I could have gone for my full name and that would be much cheaper. My name is not popular at all, but I've noticed more babies being given this name. So I thought before its too late, y not bid when its within my reach. btw, I registered other extensions for the same name before I could bid and so it became even more valuable to me.
Yea, I started $100... then to 150... 200.. 150 and finally 300.
