    Desktop Capture (Video)

I was wondering if anyone knew a program that would let me make videos of what I'm doing on my desktop. I need to make video clips showing how my senior project works (I programmed a photo gallery).

    Thanks!

If you can find the original form of 'Macromedia Captivate' before Macromedia acquired it, you should use it and it was free ware. I know I still have it somewhere on one of my CDs. It has a better user interface then Captivate and easier to edit frame and sound. I wish I knew what it was called, I also need to use it.

        EDIT:
I know it is not RoboDemo cause that was still Macromedia..

Here is something that is free full version 15 day trail

Yup, these are great programs. Macromedia Captivate is now known as Adobe Captivate. http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/

If you want something free that's similar to captivate, check out Wink: http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

Also keep in mind that if you plan on having your output as a video like avi/mpg, etc, use Camtasia or FRAPS, and if you want to do SWF use Captivate or Wink

That's a good question... I don't know what programs the school computer with the projector has installed on it :/.

I know it has Windows Media Player, though.

I use that as well, works just fine. Also, there is Snapz Pro X 2, Screen Mimic, Paparazzi, Screenography, and Screen Steps for the Mac if you use them. I've outlined out of all the ones I've tried, the best in my opinion is IShowU (IShowU is one of my favorites out of all of the screen recording software for the Mac I've tried). My wife uses Fraps but she is mainly interested in capturing video from games and then she edits them in Microsoft's Movie Maker.

An expansive purchase, what you buy it for? Doing screencasts or tutorials?

I used to get alot of people on MSN asking me how do you do.... and I try to explain with words and they was all like "Ummmmm" so I found it easier to just record how to do it and send it.

I use Snagit for this and its very good. I tried to install fraps but it wasn't able to install it due to some error I can't remmember. Anyway Snagit is very good.
