I prefer fluid designs. While my monitor is a 19" widescreen (1440 X 900), I usually keep my browser at about 1100 pixels wide and I don't like horizontal scrollbars or tiny forums that only take up a small portion of the real estate.Translations provided by Google.

I prefer pure fluid, 100%. I like breaking that amount into columns, though.Omega's Eye- A new way of gamingComment

I'll give my take. Fluid design gives you more option with real estate space, but fixed design ensures your layout always looks a certain way. That's why a lot of blogs use fixed. I wonder, how much of an issue is this with forums? With a fluid design, sometimes the forum description goes on two lines or three depending on the user's resolution lines and it can look ugly because of the spacing. The website designer doesn't have control. Yahoo has another approach. They use a fixed width but they change the layout based on the user's resolution. What about that approach?A forum for local and regional admins: adminsphere.comComment

Fixed width, I think there is so much more you can do with a fixed width style wise, and it's much easier to predict what things will look like in other peoples browsers.
But fluid is more universally friendly - for different size monitors people use. Unless you use a 760 fixed width, but I think thats too narrow now for some off vbulletins settings, if there used like the mod column. And extra things displayed in the members list. You start to struggle with a 760 fixed width.Comment
