Asking this on Jelsoft's board will not get you a neutral opinion. Obviously, you are going to be told vBulletin is the best here. I'm also sure if you asked this same question on the phpBB or IPB boards, you would be told that vBulletin is not the best BBS.

I suggest you ask this question on a neutral board, such as Neowin or Sitepoint.

Best at what? I love vBulletin and for any forum I am serious about I would use the software for, but that's my opinion. The larest forum in the world that has almost a billion posts is running PHPBB, take that into consideration too.

Try the demo, if you like what you see, then go ahead and buy it.

Um, you're aware you asking this on vBulletin.com, right?

What do you think the answer is going to be?

I haven't tried out all the message board systems yet but I did choose to pay money for vBulletin. I think it's the better than phpBB, IPB, MyBB, MercuryBoard, NextBBS, plus a couple others I may have tried.

It's a great application, with great support. I would highly recommend picking it up!

don't bother asking at neowin ... nothing but IPB fanboys over there.

I think vB is one of the best for the price it costs. There are other similar products but they cost significantly more.

I like vBulletin's format more than a lil' bit. If I had the money, vB would be first choice.

No vBulletin is the worst forum software ever, and none of my sites run it at all, and any future ones will not use it either.

Well, I had to be different ;-)

                          Evil you are.
Congratulations on the death of vBulletin, Internet Brands.

It depends for what you want to use it. If you just want a standard forum, why not? If you want a massively customized site where forums are not necessarily the primary feature, then not necessarily, although at that point you may be writing your own solution.

I think Vbulletin is the best, because it has a lot to offer. The hacks for vb are not limited to 100s. I have seen many types of forum softwares, and I think they don't even deserve to see a vbulletin forum!

I highly recommend you to buy it, rather than buying something else. I know it costs a little much, but it has a lot of resources, and you can customize your board!
