    Is this OK?

    HI,

I was wondering, can you use the same VB licence for Sub-domains?

Also, for test purpouses I also want to use a subdomain to make a copy of my main domain, so I can work on building a new site, which will strictly be used for testing, and won't be public. If the above isn't possible, is at least this OK?

No. Each license is good for one installation of vBulletin, i.e., one set of vB files on one domain with one set of vB database tables. As per the license agreement:

"vBulletin license grants you the right to run one instance (a single installation) of the Software on one web server and one web site for each license purchased. Each license may power one instance of the Software on one domain. For each installed instance of the Software, a separate license is required. Modifications to the software or database to circumvent the one-license-one-board rule are prohibited."

You can view the license agreement here:

I thought it was perfectly fine to run a test forum?

It is, but must not be viewable by the public (i.e password protected by .htaccess file).

A test forum is just that, a private one set up for developing or testing, not publicly facing for a sub domain.

I believe the original questions is asking if two installs can be used to run this :

          example.com/forum

          second.example.com

One domain, though still two installs.

I just installed the software Tuesday on my server (No Problems) and before I mess with the default forum I also would like to setup and play with a test forum first. I thought about running it on my hard drive but all the info I can find is at least two years old which makes me skittish and I'm not sure how to go about setting up the following
(i.e password protected by .htaccess file).
to keep me legal on my server.
I've searched for two days on multiple boards.
Can you guess I'm an amateur? HAHAHA

            Thanks.

I think this may be the answer. I'm going to give it a try.
