    Its time to Archive VB2

I am not sure if anyone has posted this before but i really think its time that Jelsoft archive the VB2 forums since VB 3.6 is now here it really makes no sense in keeping it alive as its a very old product.

Also why is Jelsoft still releasing update patches for VB2 it should be discontinued just like VB1 is.

I could be way off in saying this but thats jut my 2 cents worth.

Due to the architecture of the vBulletin 3, 3.5 and 3.6 series there are certain boards out there that are unable to upgrade from 2.3.x.

vBulletin 2 will be retired once we have a solution for those boards.

Could you, by any chance, expand on that? Like, what parts of the architecture are causing problems?

What about the people who like the vB 2 series though?

vB3 was heavily optimized for large numbers of posts, threads and users but this was done at the expense of those who have large numbers of forums and usergroups.

A site with silly numbers of forums (I'd say that more than 100 is starting to get silly) and usergroups will find the vB3 consumes ever more resources and becomes unworkable.

The only solution we have for these sites at present is vB2.

          vB4 will make vB2 redundant.

Which is when I suppose you will then archive vBulletin 2.x?
Congratulations on the death of vBulletin, Internet Brands.

I would actually disagree with this.

I've benchmarked vB2 with vB3 on our forums, and vB2 is a clear winner where performance is concerned. The benchmark was done on the main areas of the forums (main page, forumdisplay and showthread) and vB2 beat vB3 on hits per second every time.

vB2 is also severly lacking of many features.

...and because it's lacking features, it doesn't need to do many things like vB3.

                  Also, WE WANT vB4!

                  ...

Haha, just kidding, just kidding. ^_^

Which is why I have backported the best features from vB3 to vB2.

So it is simple - want vb with features but doesn't scale use Vb3 - want vb with less features but scales - use Vb2.

This is why we won't upgrade, that and the licence.

I like vB2 and always have done. I agree that vB2 is only faster because it uses many less server intensive features than vB3. I wish vB2 though had the option to hightlight text in a post and click a Bold or italic bbcode button etc. Rather than you having to have too add the bbcode brackets manually by typing them. If that feature was there in vB2 I think I would have stayed with it personally above all the other version. Even though it lacked many other features.

I have 250 forums and 1/2 million posts and I never found any slowdown with vB3, 3.5 or 3.6.
