    XFire Needs vBulletin!

XFire is a gaming messenger what lets you talk to your friends whilst playing games. I've used this service since 2004, they were very small back then, but not now. They get a new registration every 1 to 60 seconds. Everytime you reafresh the page, they have a new user. I think they should run on vBulletin instead of phpbb. The whole user database is huge.

The website is running of php-nuke, (they modded it). I talk to all the developers and workers of XFire about it, all I get it 'We'll look into it'.

XFire has just recently got sold to MTV, Unicom (or whatever the company name is), if I was them, I'd make a brand new website and move the forums over to vBulletin.

    What do you think?

Viacom probably owns MTV along with several other channels.

amazes me the number of large groups, companies or organisations that are loaded and stick with free forum software. Skinflints!

phpBB is a good solution for certain people. Don't let the fact that you paid $100+ for a license give you a bias

How, exactly, is a software package known for server level vulnerabilities, lack of features and non-existant support a good solution for anyone?

PHPBB is bad, i am able to gain root access in a number of random forums all due to outdated code, and its not hard to find them with simple google search references.

When you go to PHPBB's support forums, everyone there are noobs, the dev's don't help you, the users do. Some just make random replys to your post to boost their post count up

vBulletin has it's fair share of vulnerabilities that have been patched just like on phpBB. Like I said, different strokes for different folks.

Should you not be telling them this?

"Should you not be telling them this [tell xfire to use vBulletin]?" indicates you should tell them to use it. As in "Is there any reason for you not to tell them?"
