I make backups every second day (my forums are rather small).
I've set up a cronjob to do it for me.

Rolling backups twice a day and once per week. Plus my server is backed up offsite once per day.

Live site backup, daily, home network backup would be daily too if (1) I get a gigabit network switch and a gigabit PCI network card for my server and (2) if I can choose up to 50 GB of data to backup out of my desktop's total 374 GB of storage.

Speaking of backing it up, how do you do that?
                      It's gooses, not geese.
At least that's how it should be...

You need SSH enabled on your account, if your on a shared server you will have to ask your webhost to enable it for you. Most will with no problem at all.

Then you will need a SSH client, putty is the most commonly used one, you can download it here.

Then you just log into your account, and use this command to do a MySQL Dump of your database..

                            mysqldump --opt -Q -uprefix_dbusername -pdbpassword prefix_dbname > /home/yoursite/yoursite_may_17.sql

Replace prefix with your database prefix, and the dbpassword with your database password, and dbname with your database name

                            ----edit----

If you have any problems backing up, feel free to PM me, and i will be happy to help you out....
