    Switching Servers

    I have a reseller with over 30 clients. How hard would it be to move my and everyones account to a new server?

    Depends on what you are moving to and from and how comfortable you are with the CLI.

      I'm moving to another reseller from a reseller.
      The new server has the same web space, more bandwidth, and pretty much same features.
      CLI = Common Line Interface?

        If the new server has WHM/Cpanel, you can just copy the accounts via WHM to the new server very easily.

        I prefer doing it all manually myself just to be safe, but i know many people that used WHM to copy accounts from one server, to another with no problems at all...

          They both have WHM and cPanel.

          So I don't have backup every single database and restore them on the new server? It'll automatically copy over?

            I would tell your clients backup their database just to be safe, but when you copy the accounts with WHM you really dont' have to worry about issues.

                One thing to keep in mind is that WHM is not a 100% effective method of transfer for the accounts. If the accounts are rather large, have a great deal of files or have a large MySQL database attached, WHM has been known to freeze as the browser will only attempt for so long.

                With that, I've easily transferred websites with 2-4GB+ of data via WHM. It probably would have been quicker using command line and SCP, although WHM does port 99% of all data whereas with SCP you'd transfer a set of files, then the backup and so forth.

                It really depends on how much data we're talking about as to how smooth it'll all go.

                  I'd generate full backups for each of the clients and import them after moving them via ftp/wget etc.

                    I don/t trust WHM to copy my accounts over either, i do them all manually.
                    All the files and databases. It just much safer that way..

                      Generating a fullbackup yourself is generally safe. I prefer to let it do what it can. After having to move databases, and files of 10gb+ I like to get whatever I can automated

                        FWIW worth I moved 10 domains from one server to another using WHM. Worked flawlessly.

                          When you are moving servers and softwares missmatch it can be problems (mysql for example.)
