Hivemail (no longer actively developed from what I've heard), SocketMail, or SquirrelMail come to mind as programs that are standalone from vB whereas vBMS is powered by vB and obviously requires it to function.

My response is biased if you want to integrate it with vB. I see SocketMail frequently mentioned for non-vB integrated solutions, although I don't have experience with it.

It seems as if Socketmail is the best and most affordable webmail solution at the moment, though I haven't testet it yet, too.

I found atmail recently but the price is.......

Well, socketmail has too many BUGS

I have been shopping for webmail software, I checked socketmail, but I noticed poeple (customers) complaint that it has too many bugs.

So maybe look somewhere else, also, if u find something nice

Socketmail 2.2.5 was supposed to be very buggy but not the current version.

But the problem with SM is its community too. There are 0-2 posts per day on their forum - it's just not a real community as on vb.com. Furthermore such things as private messages are disabled. The list goes on...

Yet - there doesn's seem to be a much better choice for that price.
