What made vB so famous

Was jelsoft some great powerful software maker before?

I believe some team members worked on VB (as in Visual Basic) but decided instead to jump on the PHP/MySQL wagon and develop a forum. How did it become "famous"? Simple, vBulletin has grown over the years and has more advanced features, amazing support, and plenty of other things that got a lot of people to buy it. Once those simple bought it, word spread and next thing you know, vB is the leader in the market.

VB was borne out of the frustration with Infopop and UBB which was the product that most of us used back then. John did a POC PHP/Mysql version of UBB and asked if Infopop were interested. They weren't and Jelsoft was born.
