    startx

that starts X, what you call the GUI for linux. As for upgrading, you should delete the previous apache/php file (ie uninstalling the rpms via rpm -U) . You could have also gotten the rpm's for those and upgraded like that (rpmfind.net).

You should have tried Linux Mandrake, it's much better to get started with btw.

Of course you can pick and choose whatever you want. You could even install a webserver out of a floppy distro.

So don't worry about installing workstation or webserver, because you can actually use linux as your dekstop you know too Then later install the packages just the same which would give you a better understanding of it anyways, plus you will have to upgrade because most distros never come out with the newest version of apache/mysql/php
This "yep" was for the question if he can dual boot between RH and Windows ...

        follow this:
        pico /etc/inittab

        the part where it says:
        ---
        # 4 - unused
        # 5 - X11
        # 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
        #
        id:5:initdefault:
        ---

Make sure thats a 5 and not a 3 or 1 which is often the case on certain distros. You must be root to change this file.
