As this is not unofficial support for vBulletin I suppose it's okay to answer.

You may have one test vBulletin so long as it is in a password-protected directory called 'testvb'.

The directory 'testvb' must be protected by a password so that not just anyone can access it.

I don't think the dir name is that important, just make sure it's protected with .htaccess. I asked about this once when I got my first license and was told this. They even said a subdomain was fine too. The important thing is: password protection on the folder itself and nobody but you uses it.

              From the shell...

              >cd /home/username/
              >htpasswd -c .htpasswd-vbtest <enter username here>
              >New Password: <insert password here>
              >Verify Password: <insert password again here>
              >cd /home/username/public_html/vbtest
              >ee .htaccess

Use the following in the file:

              AuthType Basic
              AuthName "vbTest Area"
              AuthUserFile "/home/username/.htpassword-vbtest"
              require valid-user <insert username from above here>

              [save file]

The catch is your apache config file must have the "AllowOverride AuthConfig" value set for your domain. If you do not have access to this, ask your host.

P.S. If you have CPanel or another similar hosting control script installed, there will be automated options somewhere in there for this.

P.P.S You may not have "ee" installed. Use what ever editor you wish.

First, run the htpasswd command line I stated above. You have to do that yourself. As for the htaccess file, you can just cut and paste what I posted, substituting your desired username into it and adjusting the paths as required.

What? Why are you thanking them? Are you the other person that has access to his test installation?
