But the short answer would be Yes Read the manual multiple times if needed and test things. Try to do it systematically. For example AV means you select the aperture and the camera selects the appropriate shuttertime based on the chosen ISO and how the exposure should be. Take a photo on the lowest aperture your lens allows, then bump it one stop and take a new photo. Continue this for a while. Then compare the photos and the exif info and see what changing the aperture does. You can do the same with TV. Here you select the shuttertime and the camera selects the aperture.
Thanks for the information. Do you have any recommendations for good photography forums?

Only a month and a bit late, I've now done this test for you...

I've uploaded a series of zip files containing a total of twelve full-resolution JPEG images, converted in from raw using DPP with sharpness set at 3 (my default).

The images in the zips show three different subjects, each of which was shot with the following lenses and lens combinations - I'm sure you'll be able to work out the naming conventions I've used in the images:
        • EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM (f/2.8)
        • EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM + Extender EF 1.4 II (f/4.0)
        • EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM + Extender EF 2.0 II (f/5.6)
        • EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM (f/2.8)

In each case, I've shot with the aperture as wide as possible. The photos are mind numbingly boring, but hopefully they illustrate whatever it is you wanted to see.

Thank you very much! This is exactly what I was looking for. A nice compare of the different extender and on top the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM (f/2.8). Very nice.

            No problem.

The 400mm f/2.8 puts every other lens I own to shame, it's so ridiculously sharp and the colour reproduction is breathtaking. But then, what else would one expect from a lens that expensive...

This doesn't compare to what you guys are using but I picked up a Canon Powershot SX110IS 10x zoom yesterday and love it! Its a lot smaller than previous S2IS.

                    Thank you!

The second one (the one with our car) got printed on a calendar we sold 90 units of.

                      Very nice shots MrNase.

Would post some of my own, but my house was broken into last month and I am currently without my camera.
