It's hardly unusual, and your choice of words (emphasis mine) suggests you don't fully understand the dedication some people have to their hobby.

Besides, lots of kids blow that kind of money every month on games, movies and CDs.

I bought my first license right as I turned 14 and bought a second a few months ago. Trust me, it is worth it.

Shit, trying to navigate without a mouse sucks.

Geeze, I know what you mean, I never really bougt CD's untill recently and man am I glad I was never really into music :dies:

160 for anything, while it is alot of moeny, its an investment in a hobby or business that is well worth it.

Kids who work on cars for a hobby, they put alot of money and if they do a good job look at what comes out in the end.

Also, a lot of people mention the higer price of competition. What about IPB & phpBB and also YaBB? They're free.

            What competition do you mean?
I wouldn't call it throwing my money away. It's well worth the money. What can I say. Forums are my hobby. =]

compare it to ubb. That's what i call expensive. Plus the software looks outdated to me (it actually looks like it's 10 years old).

Compared to what you get, when you buy vB it really isn't that much money.

phpBB is usually used for small sites and sites starting out. very rare is it used for a MAJOR BIG WOW site.
some big sites uses phpBB (gentoo.org and others) and phpBB3 looks to me like a competition for vB and others

It´s a bargain in my oppinion. There are worst ways to waste money, I´ll name some.
                    1.) Cigars;
2.) Drinks at bars. Saturday nights are very expensive.
                    3.) Collectible card games.

I recall when I used to be addicted to Magic the Gathering. I spent so much money on cards that now I feel like a jackass...I could have a top computer if I saved that money. Oh well i was young and naive...

If it was a hobby and you enjoyed it then I wouldn't see how that would be a waste of money. Hobbies and interests can change over time and when that happens you start spending money on the new hobby.

I wasted much more than that, but on the other hand I believe my current card values outweights the costs because I have very expensive (foil) cards.
I wanted to sold that, but then I thought...nah..it was very hard for me to gather all these cards since it was a hobby of mine. Who cares that I wasted some money? It´s better than using it on cigars, drugs, booze, porn videos/magazines, useless toys or games that can be beaten in 1 day.

Those days were so fun...when school was over, we always went to a store to play with some of the best players in the country. Great times indeed....

Just consider it a donation to the people who thanklessly bring you premium software, upgrades, support, and a community. Do you honestly expect that people would commit this level of work to create and give you things for FREE?

And while we are on the subject, how would you feel if someone showed up at your work and told you that you were "overpaid" or "not worth" your current wage? Because that is EXACTLY what you have done here. I commend the staff for their restraint on this and similar threads...

I think the term would be a "freeloader" imo imo, they don't care for the developer's hard work, they just want all free and get everything for free.

Well, now people get to see both versions of what I wrote!

Ah well, I tried to tone it down!
